M S Subbulakshmi


I’m addicted now to the Lakshmi Ashtotharam sung so awesomely by M S, just as I was a year ago to the Vishnu Sahasranamam sung by the same lady.

She’s beyond fabulous. I wish I knew what raaga she sang the Ashtotharam in; and I want to learn this one. Especially because it’s for a devi :-). If someone knows any blogs or boards on Indian music – specifically Carnatic Classical – I’d be grateful for links…

And after yesterday, when we watched Kidnap, and so many months of musings on the complete absence of female role models – I think the only way to get around this is to start writing. We have to create our own fiction, our own movies, our own songs, our own art where we celebrate ourselves. Because no one else will, can, or may be forced to.
